A New Academy
for
Nottingham
2
Original Proposal
  •  One Site
  •  11 – 18
  •  11 form entry of 330 students
  •  450 post-16
  •  2100 students in total
3
Outcomes
  • No affordable site was available.

  • Single site option was undeliverable.

  • Greenwood Dale/Elliott Durham sites are at extreme ends of the communities to be served – so neither are suitable for the single site option.
4
THE WAY FORWARD
  • A single academy based on three  separate sites.

  • A 3-18 academy.

  • Sites situated to serve the communities of all predecessor schools.
5
Greenwood Road Site 1
(3-15/16)
  • A new build on the Jesse Boot school site for:

  •   -  a 90 pupil nursery school
  •   -  a 630 pupil primary school
  •   -  a 10 form entry secondary school
6
Greenwood Road Site 2
(15/16 – 18)
  • A refurbishment of the Greenwood Dale site with all ‘temporary’ buildings removed.

  • To serve post-16 students with, possibly, 300 year 11 students.
7
Ransom Road Site (11-18)
  • A new build on the Elliott Durham site for:

  •   - a six form entry secondary school
  •   - post-16 provision for up to 100
  •     students.
8
Overall numbers:
  • Nursery               90
  • KS1 & KS2      630
  • KS3 & KS4    2400
  • Post-16      400

  • Total    3520 students

9
Structure
  • An Executive Principal to oversee all standards, finance, personnel etc.

  • Heads of individual schools with day to day responsibility for running each site.

  • One for nursery, KS1 & KS2.

  • One for Greenwood Road sites.

  • One for Ransom Road site.
10
Admissions
  • For nursery and reception, application will be much the same as it is now, except that numbers will not be reduced as they would have been in the Sneinton primary re-organisation model.

  • At age 11, parents apply for a place at the academy, except for those in the academy primary school who get an automatic secondary place.
11
"At age 11"
  • At age 11, after statutory SEN and Looked After children criteria, admission is by named feeder school and then by proximity.

  • Placements to sites will be managed on the basis of proximity and some form of fair banding based on primary school recommendations.

12
Feeder Schools
  • Greenwood Junior
  • Hogarth
  • Sneinton C of E
  • Bluebell Hill
  • Sycamore
  • Walter Halls
  • Huntingdon
  • St Anns Well

Questions
  • Why one academy, not two?
  • Why 3–18?
  • Why not 3-18 on the Ransom Road site?
  • Why have year 11s on the existing Greenwood Dale site?
  • Why the increase in secondary age pupil numbers?
  • Why only a refurbishment for the Greenwood Dale site?
14
What could still hold up the process?
  • Sport England
  • Partnership for Schools
  • Primary Funding
  • City Council Decision Making Process
  • Consultation
  • Closure of predecessor schools
